What’s the real difference between an Aga and a Heritage?

Back

A traditional Aga radiates comforting heat but often lacks precision and energy efficiency. A Heritage combines timeless design with rapid heat-up times, programmable controls, and integrated home heating, delivering all the character of a range cooker with modern performance and convenience.
For generations the sight of a traditional Aga glowing at the heart of a country kitchen has symbolised warmth and belonging. Yet, as lifestyles have evolved, so too has the technology we rely on. Where old Agas provide constant background heat no matter the weather, a modern Heritage Range Cooker takes that heritage charm and refines it into something more efficient, responsive, and controllable for each season.

Every Heritage is hand-crafted in Cornwall from cast iron and heavy steel. This ensures lasting durability and superior heat retention, but with added advantages. Unlike traditional models that must stay permanently lit, Heritage cookers can reach roasting temperature in just 20–40 minutes and bring hotplates to cooking heat in around 10 minutes. Advanced thermostats and forced-combustion burners mean you can control temperatures precisely and switch between cooking modes as you need them.

Another key difference lies in integration. Oil-fired Heritage models can produce up to 120,000 BTUs, enough to heat as many as 25 radiators, while providing hot water for everyday use. They work with radiators, underfloor heating, and even solar-ready cylinders. In short, they become more than just a cooker; they’re a full home solution, designed to bring efficiency and comfort under one roof.

Heritage also recognises that modern kitchens demand flexibility. Each oven is large enough for a family roast, with dimensions of 500 mm deep, 345mm wide, and 270mm high. Options include induction hobs, griddle plates, and simmering or boiling zones, ensuring every kind of cooking—from slow braises to quick weekday meals—is covered.

Finally, design remains as important as performance. Heritage cookers are available in a spectrum of colours, from classic enamel tones to contemporary hues, and coordinate beautifully with traditional rural paint palettes, Farrow & Ball etc. Choose brass or nickel finishes to complete the look, creating a centrepiece that anchors your kitchen with elegance.

An Aga may hold nostalgia, but a Heritage takes that legacy forward—combining craftsmanship, control, and efficiency with the warmth and familiarity that makes a range cooker so beloved.
